AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken softball
student-athletes Brandy Bossle and Victoria Burkett have been chosen to the Peach Belt
Conference All-Academic Team.
The league office made the announcement on Tuesday, May 7.
The academic honor is the second in the last week for the tandem
as Bossle and Burkett were tabbed to the Capital One Academic NCAA
Division II Softball District Three First-Team last Thursday.
Bossle is now a two-time Peach Belt Conference All-Academic
selection as she also garnered the award in 2011. Burkett claims
the honor for the first time in her career.
Bossle (North East, Md./Rising Sun HS) concluded her senior
season by playing in 40 games for the Pacers. She posted a
team-best .386 on-base percentage, while hitting .259 (15-for-58)
on the season.
Bossle ended her senior season with four multiple hit games. She
scored 11 runs and drove in six in the 2013 season.
In the classroom, Bossle boasts a 3.843 grade point average as a
Biology major. She will graduate from USC Aiken this week.
Burkett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert HS) closed out her sophomore
season in 2013 by starting in all 47 games for USC Aiken. She hit
.262 (39-for-149) on the season with nine multiple-hit games.
Burkett scored 18 times, while driving in 13.
Burkett led USC Aiken with three triples on the year. She also
had two doubles and one home run. Burkett was 11-for-12 in stolen
base attempts on the 2013 season.
An Exercise and Sports Science major, Burkett presently owns a
3.857 grade point average.
The Peach Belt Conference Softball All-Academic Team is
part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding
accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as
on the hardwood. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a
student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her
team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor;
2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)
and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her
current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information
Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 32 NCAA
Division II National Championships. 14 member institutions in North
Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in
15 championship sports. The 2012-13 members are Augusta State
University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State
University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis
Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia
Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of
Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University,
University of North Carolina at Pembroke. the University of South
Carolina Aiken and Young Harris College.
