NEW YORK – The University of South Carolina Aiken
men's golf team is still the third-ranked team in the nation in the
latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Men's
Coaches' Poll and the Golfstat NCAA Division II Head-to-Head
standings.
The Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Men's
Coaches' Poll combines the resources of Golf
World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches
Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including
results from Divisions I, III, NAIA and NJCAA will appear in the
May 6, 2013 issue of Golf World.
USC Aiken is the highest of five ranked Peach Belt Conference
teams in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Men's
Coaches' Poll. Columbus State is ninth, Armstrong is
14th and Georgia College is 15th. Georgia
Southwestern is currently 22nd.
Nova Southeastern is first nationally in the Golf
World/Nike Golf Division II Men's Coaches' Poll. Barry is
second in the poll, while Florida Southern and Lynn are both tied
for fourth.
The top-3 is the same in the latest Golfstat NCAA Division II
Head-to-Head standings with Nova Southeastern first, Barry second
and the Pacers third. In the Golfstat rankings, CSU-Monterey Bay is
fourth, while Grand Canyon is fifth.
USC Aiken will next make its 21st appearance in the
NCAA Division II Tournament in the last 22 years.
USC Aiken will be participating in the NCAA Division II
South/Southeast Regional Monday, May 6-Wednesday, May 8. The
regional will be contested at the par-72, 6,928-yard El Campeon
golf course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in
Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The regional is being co-hosted by the
Sunshine State Conference and the Central Florida Sports
Commission.
The top seven teams and top two student-athletes not with a team
from each regional (regardless of region) after stroke play in
the 2013 NCAA South/Southeast Regional will advance to the finals
May 20-24 at the par-71, 7,061-yard East Course at the Hershey
Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
The NCAA Division II field features 80 teams and 32 individual
student-athletes overall.
The South/Southeast Regional consists of 10 teams each from both
the South and Southeast regions of NCAA Division II. The top four
individuals from each region not with a team were also
selected.
The three-day, 54-hole regional will feature one round each day.
Action will get underway at 7:30 a.m. each day. Admission is free
each day.
USC Aiken will be vying to make its 17th appearance in the NCAA
Division II Men's Golf Championship in the South/Southeast
regional.
