No. 3 Pacers Pick Up 5-2 Victory Over Georgia Southwestern in Regular-Season Finale

AMERICUS, Ga. – The nationally third-ranked and 2013 Peach Belt Conference regular-season champion University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team completed a regular-season closing three-game Peach Belt Conference road sweep of Georgia Southwestern on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over the Hurricanes at Hurricane Stadium. 

The USC Aiken (41-9, 24-6 PBC) victory over Georgia Southwestern (15-31, 5-22 PBC) on Saturday allows the Pacers to close the regular-season having won 14 of its last 15 games. The Pacers have won a school-record tying seven straight away games. The 2006 USC Aiken baseball team also won seven straight away games at one point.

The three-game sweep of Georgia Southwestern also allows USC Aiken to close out the 2013 regular-season having claimed 11 of its 13 three-game series this season (Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, Shepherd, Francis Marion, Flagler, Young Harris, North Georgia, Augusta State, Lander, Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern). 

The Pacers swept three-game series from Lincoln Memorial, Shepherd, Flagler, Young Harris, North Georgia, Augusta State, Lander and Georgia Southwestern.

USC Aiken kicked off its third game win over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday with Branden Millhouse (Summerville, S.C./USC Upstate) being walked. Tyler Moore (Evans, Ga./Evans HS) then singled him over to second to place a runner in scoring position. After steals by Millhouse and Moore, Bryce Baur (Moncks Corner, S.C./Florence-Darlington Tech) was walked to load the bases for the Pacers.

Bill Gerstenslager (Solon, Ohio/Mercyhurst), who tripled in the contest, brought Millhouse home next by hitting a sacrifice fly to left field.

The score would remain 1-0 in USC Aiken's favor until the top of the fourth inning. JJ Loker (Elkton, Va. Spotswood HS) brought Baur home in the inning on a single to give the Pacers a 2-0 advantage.

USC Aiken would go on to add single runs in the top of the fifth, seventh and eighth innings. Georgia Southwestern plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth in its three-run loss to the Pacers.

Georgia Southwestern out-hit USC Aiken, 7-4, in Saturday's game. No Pacer was able to secure multiple hits.

USC Aiken's Ryan Milewski (West Boylston, Mass./West Boylston HS) dealt the first eight innings of the game in claiming the win on the hill. Milewski (6-3) fanned three, while allowing just four hits.

Georgia Southwestern starter Justin Lott suffered the loss in the game. He dropped to 1-3 on the year with the loss on the mound.

The Peach Belt Conference regular-season champion Pacers will next enter the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The 2013 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament will be contested May 8-12 at Dolny Stadium in Greenwood, S.C. The championship will be hosted by Lander.

The top eight teams in the Peach Belt Conference after the regular-season advance to the double-elimination Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament. Further information and seeding for the championship will be released by the Peach Belt Conference office after the conclusion of the league regular-season next weekend.
