COLUMBUS, Ga. – The nationally 30th-ranked/regional seventh-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team had its 2013 season come to a close in a 5-1 loss to national No. 8/region second-seeded Columbus State in the first match of the Southeast Region #2 bracket on Saturday morning at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
Making its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, USC Aiken closes its 2013 campaign with an 11-9 overall record.
Columbus State improves to 18-3 on the year with its win. The Cougars will face off against the winner of the sixth-seeded Augusta State-third-seeded Lander match in the Southeast Region #2 final at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.
USC Aiken's match with Columbus State Saturday began with the Cougars claiming two of the three doubles matches.
USC Aiken's lone point of the match came at No. 3 doubles where the tandem of Kevin Zerath (Marseilles, France/Euromed Management Marseille) and Ronan Reberac (Contes, France/Lycée Guillaume Apollinaire) bested Columbus State's Adi Malicbegovic and Danilo Sardelli, 8-3.
Columbus State would then win at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles to secure the 5-1 win.
