USC Aiken Men's Tennis Earns Spot in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team learned on Tuesday evening that it will soon be making its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

The NCAA Division II men's tennis committee unveiled the 2013 NCAA Division II men's tennis NCAA Tournament selections during a live selection show on NCAA.com.

USC Aiken is one 48 teams in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament. The Pacers received one of the 33 at-large bids. There were 15 automatic qualifiers.

The NCAA Division II men's tennis Southeast Region features nine teams with national No. 1 Armstrong and national No. 8 Columbus State both hosting sections of the regional. The Southeast #1 and #2 regionals will be held Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.  

USC Aiken is the seventh seed in the region and will face Southeast Region #2 host and region second-seeded Columbus State in Columbus, Ga. at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.

The winner of the seventh-seeded USC Aiken-second-seeded Columbus State match will advance to face the winner of the sixth-seeded Augusta State-third-seeded Lander match.

The winner of the Southeast Region #2 final advances to the national round of 16, which will be held at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz. on May 8.  

In the Savannah, Ga. portion of the region, ninth-seeded Lincoln Memorial and eighth-seeded Limestone will face off for the right to meet the top-ranked Pirates of Armstrong.

Fourth-seeded Georgia College and fifth-seeded Francis Marion will tangle for the right to face the winner of the #1 Armstrong-#8-#9 winner match for the right to move on to the Round of 16.

Ranked 30th nationally, USC Aiken enters the NCAA Southeast Regional with a record of 11-8 on the 2013 season. Columbus State is currently 17-3 on the season.

The Pacers and Cougars already tangled once this season with the then nationally seventh-ranked Cougars able to hold off the upset-minded and then nationally 23rd-ranked Pacers, 7-2, on Sunday, March 3 in Columbus, Ga. at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.

Match 1: #2 Columbus State vs. #7 USC Aiken 9 a.m.

Match 2: #3 Lander vs. #6 Augusta State 1 p.m.

Sunday, April 28

Match 3: Winner of Match #1 vs. Winner of Match #2 3 p.m.
