Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The sixth-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken softball team fell to second-seeded/nationally 14th-ranked Georgia College, 4-3, in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals on Sunday afternoon.
Georgia College (36-14) took an early lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Kristen Brooks was able to score on a wild pitch to put the Bobcats ahead, 1-0.
Neither team would score again until the top of the sixth inning. USC Aiken (25-21-1) was able to break the game open with three runs in the top of the sixth. Victoria Burkett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert HS) drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kaitlyn White (McAllen, Texas/College of Charleston), who singled to get on base. One batter later, Brittney Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll HS) had a two-RBI single that drove in Hillary Stewart (Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood HS) and Burkett, giving the Pacers a 3-1 lead.
The Bobcats answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dani Gallucci hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 3-3. Kelsea Martin also scored on the homer.
The Pacers were unable to score in the top of the seventh, to keep the game tied at 3-3. Georgia College was able to push across the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kristen Humphries drew a bases-loaded walk. Abi LeRoy scored the winning run for the Bobcats.
Taylor Morgan (Chapin, S.C./Chapin HS) took the loss for the Pacers, pitching six innings. Morgan (11-9) struck out five, while surrendering four hits and three runs.
Dani Gallucci (15-5) got the complete-game victory for the Bobcats.
The Pacers out-hit the Bobcats, 6-4, in the game. Williamson was the only player to collect multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
