AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team was unable to upset nationally 42nd-ranked Erskine on Saturday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex, falling 6-3 to the Flying Fleet.
The match opened with USC Aiken (8-4) taking just one of the three doubles flights from Erskine (6-2).
USC Aiken's tandem of Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Franziska Regel (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Farmsen) downed Erskine's Miranda Guthrie and Sarah McDonald, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles.
Simon also won in singles, downing Guthrie 5-7, 7-5, 10-7 at No. 2 singles.
Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) picked up the final point on the day for the Pacers at No. 3 singles. She defeated Erskine's Abby O'Reilly 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
USC Aiken will hit the road tomorrow (Sunday) to face off against Peach Belt Conference foe Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. The match is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
