AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team garnered a doubleheader sweep over Wingate Wednesday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field.

The Pacers got back to their winning ways with the sweep. They are now 11-1-1 in their last 13 games. USC Aiken (12-4-1) won game one in 10 innings, 1-0, and earned a 5-2 victory over Wingate (14-9-1) in game two.

The Pacers will next be in action on Thursday as they open Peach Belt Conference play on the road at Francis Marion. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

The next home doubleheader for USC Aiken will be on Saturday as they play host to nationally 14th-ranked Flagler. First pitch in game one is slated for 1 p.m.

Game 1: USC Aiken 1, Wingate 0 (10 Innings)

The Pacers got an extra-inning shutout performance from India Kornegay to give them a chance to win the game late, 1-0.

Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) pitched 10 scoreless innings in the victory for USC Aiken. She gave up only four hits while striking out 17 Bulldogs on the way to earning the win. Kornegay now owns a 6-2 record on the year.

Freshman Sarah Montei (Summerville, S.C./Summerville HS) drove in the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. Shannon Traylor (Prosperity, S.C./Mid-Carolina HS) scored the winning run from second base after reaching on a bunt single and advancing to second on an errant throw.

Montei was the only Pacer to collect multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4 in the win.

USC Aiken out-hit Wingate 7-4 in the game. Brittany Loudermilt was the only Bulldog to pick up multiple hits in the game.

Stacey Houser (9-4) picked up the loss for Wingate in game one.

Game 2: USC Aiken 5, Wingate 2

USC Aiken's bats came alive early in game two with the Pacers batting around and scoring five runs in the first inning to lead to the 5-2 victory.

Montei led off the home half of the first with a single and swiped second base to move into scoring position. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brittney Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll HS). Lindsey Jones (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta HS) drove her in on a single to tie the game at 1-1.

Jones would score on an error by the third baseman allowing Nicole Borden (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) to reach base. Victoria Burkett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert HS) would then reach on another error, this time by the pitcher, to put runners on second and third for Cortney Sadler (Bradenton, Fla./State College of Fla., Manatee-Sarasota). Sadler would strike the big blow with a triple that scored both runners. These would turn out to be the game-winning RBIs.

Sadler would then score the fifth and final run of the inning for the Pacers when she scored on a Brandy Bossle (North East, Md./Rising Sun HS) RBI.

Reigning Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week Taylor Morgan (Chapin, S.C./Chapin HS) would pick up the win for the Pacers. Morgan (6-2) gave up only one earned run while fanning six Bulldogs in her complete-game victory.

USC Aiken and Wingate both had five hits in the game. Kaitlyn White (McAllen, Texas/College of Charleston) was the only Pacer with multiple hits. White went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in the contest.

Alexis Burrell was the only Bulldog to secure multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3.
