TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of South Carolina
Aiken baseball team remained sixth in the fifth 2013 regular-season
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II
Poll.
USC Aiken was ranked 10th in the preseason poll
released on Dec. 21, 2012. The Pacers moved up five spots to fifth
in the first regular-season national tally. The Pacers remained
fifth in the second regular-season poll. The Pacers have now been
ranked sixth in the third, fourth and fifth regular-season
polls.
The Pacers have now been ranked in 22 straight national polls.
The Pacers were ranked inside the top-30 in the final 16 national
polls of the 2012 season.
USC Aiken is the highest-ranked of two Peach Belt Conference teams
in the latest top-10. Lander is one spot behind the Pacers in
seventh.
Mount Olive is No. 1 in the newest poll. Delta State is second,
while Cal State Chico is third. Tampa is fourth and Central
Missouri is fifth.
The nationally sixth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken
baseball team swept a three-game series from Flagler this past
weekend at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USC Aiken (13-2, 5-1 PBC) has now claimed all
five of its three-game series this season (Lincoln Memorial,
Carson-Newman, Shepherd, Francis Marion and Flagler). The Pacers
swept Lincoln Memorial, Shepherd and Flagler.
The sweep allowed USC Aiken
baseball head coach Kenny Thomas to claim his
1,000th career victory. In his
26th season as a head coach and
14th season in charge of the Pacer baseball
program, Thomas now has a 1,000-502 career record. USC Aiken's
all-time winningest coach presently owns a 480-279 record as the
Pacer head mentor.
USC Aiken will open the upcoming week by
closing out its season-opening 17-game homestand by welcoming
regional rival and current national No. 25 Catawba to the 'Bert for
a two-game series. The two-game series will open with a 2 p.m.
contest on Tuesday, March 5. One day later, USC Aiken and Catawba
will conclude their two-game midweek series with a 6 p.m. game on
Wednesday, March 6.
The Pacers will then close their week by
traveling to Savannah, Ga. for their first road contests of the
2013 season. The Pacers will face league foe Armstrong Atlantic
State for a three-game series on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday,
March 10. The three-game series will open with a doubleheader on
March 9. First pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 11 a.m. The
series will close with a single 1 p.m. game on March 10.
