City of Aiken Declares March 25-April 1 USC Aiken Men's Basketball Team Week

AIKEN, S.C. – The City of Aiken declared March 25-April 1 USC Aiken men's basketball team week at the Aiken City Council meeting on Monday evening.

The proclamation was made by Aiken Mayor Fred Cavanaugh at the City Council meeting. 

The 2012-13 USC Aiken men's basketball team and coaching staff along with their families were at the Aiken City Council meeting. Also joining the Pacers for the prestigious night were USC Aiken Chancellor Dr. Sandra Jordan and USC Aiken Athletic Director Randy Warrick.

Eighth-year head men's basketball coach Vince Alexander delivered remarks after hearing of the proclamation. Chancellor Jordan then spoke on behalf of the university in congratulating the team, while also thanking everyone in the community for all that they do for Pacer athletics. 

A special picture commemorating USC Aiken men's basketball team week was then taken with Mayor Cavanaugh, Dr. Jordan, Warrick, the Aiken City Council and the 2012-13 USC Aiken men's basketball team and coaching staff.

The USC Aiken men's basketball team also received a special gift from the Aiken City Council as they obtained special Pacer horse stress toys to help them prepare for their game in the Elite Eight.

The USC Aiken men's basketball team will depart for the Elite Eight in Louisville, Ky. the morning of Tuesday, March 26.

The Pacers will then spend their next two days attending Elite Eight functions and practicing for their Elite Eight contest with Drury.

The Elite Eight game between nationally 20th-ranked USC Aiken and seventh-ranked Drury will be on Thursday, March 28 at Freedom Hall. 

The national quarterfinal showdown between USC Aiken (25-7) and Drury (28-4) is scheduled to tip off at 8:30 p.m.

The USC Aiken-Drury game is part of the second session on Thursday, March 28 at Freedom Hall. Tickets are $15 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission. There will be an $8 charge for parking.

For those unable to make their way to Freedom Hall, the game will be streamed live on NCAA.com. 

The USC Aiken Office of Student Life and the USC Aiken Athletic Department announced Monday that the university will hold a special viewing party at the Convocation Center for USC Aiken's first-ever Elite Eight game on Thursday, March 28, 2013.

All Pacer fans are invited to attend the special viewing party. There is no cost and the game will be shown on the large viewing screens in the Convocation Center. 

Free pizza and drinks will also be available during the evening while supplies last.

Doors will open for the special viewing party at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28.
