USC Aiken Tennis Teams Blow by Hurricanes on Saturday

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams swept Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.

The nationally 23rd-ranked USC Aiken men (5-1, 1-1 PBC) picked up their fourth straight win in a 7-2 win over the Georgia Southwestern men (1-6, 0-3 PBC).

The USC Aiken women (8-2, 3-2 PBC) claimed a 5-4 victory over the Georgia Southwestern women (4-5, 0-3 PBC).

The USC Aiken women entered singles action down 2-1. The Pacer No. 1 doubles tandem of Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) obtained the only win in doubles with a 9-8 (7-4) win over Georgia Southwestern's No. 1 doubles duo of Carly Cangelosi and Victoria Ondo. 

The Pacers would be able to claim four of the six singles flights to acquire the narrow 5-4 win. USC Aiken won at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. 

Simon claimed the biggest win in singles on the day for the Pacers as she bested Georgia Southwestern's Kalie Douberly 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. 

The nationally-ranked Pacer men entered singles action with a 2-1 advantage. The Pacers won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

USC Aiken would go on to claim victory in five of the six singles flights (No. 1-No. 5 singles). 

Andy Quirk (Glasgow, Scotland/Wisconsin) collected the biggest win of the day for USC Aiken in singles by downing Georgia Southwestern's Stephen Moore 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

USC Aiken will next square off against the Columbus State tennis teams at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 3 in Columbus, Ga.
