COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams swept Benedict on Friday afternoon at the Southeast Tennis Center.
The USC Aiken women's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the 2013 season with a 7-2 win over the Benedict women (0-4).
The nationally 23rd-ranked USC Aiken men moved to 4-1 on the year with a 9-0 shutout win over the Benedict men (2-4) .
The Pacer women easily swept through doubles with the No. 1 tandem of Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) claiming an 8-0 win over Benedict's No. 1 duo of Glory Zhou and Jessica Carswell.
The USC Aiken women from there would go on to acquire victories in four of the six singles flights.
Simon collected the biggest win on the day for USC Aiken with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Zhou.
The Pacer men obtained two shutout wins in doubles with the No. 2 tandem of Ettore Damiani (Genoa, Italy/University of Genoa) and Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil/Colegio Politec) and the No. 3 duo of Max Wichelhaus (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany/Gymnasium Vogelsang) and Ronan Reberac (Contes, France/Lycée Guillaume Apollinaire) picking up 8-0 wins.
Damiani and Reberac picked up shutout wins in singles as well. Damiani won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Reberac won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The USC Aiken tennis teams will next close out their weekend with two Peach Belt Conference matches on the road. The Pacers will first travel to Americus, Ga. to face off against Georgia Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. USC Aiken will then square off against the Columbus State tennis teams at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 3 in Columbus, Ga.
