ATLANTA – The nationally 44th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team opened its 2013 season with a 9-0 shutout victory over Clark Atlanta at the CAU Courts.
USC Aiken (1-0) commenced its season-opening victory over Clark Atlanta (0-1) by claiming 8-0 shutout victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The tandem of Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) claimed the win at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Giovanna Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Externato Mater Domus) and Franziska Regel (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Farmsen) won at No. 2 doubles.
USC Aiken easily swept all six singles flights with Julia Arruda (Valinhos, Brazil/Anglo Coc Valinhos) claiming the biggest win of the day for the Pacers at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
The Pacers will next welcome national No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The match will be USC Aiken's first Peach Belt Conference match of the 2013 season.
