16th-Ranked Pacers Third in Inaugural Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The nationally 16th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team is ranked third in the inaugural NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings of the 2012-13 season.

The region rankings were released by the Southeast Region selection committee. The rankings are used to determine the region participants from the Southeast Region for the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship.

Eight teams from the Southeast Region will receive an invitation to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship. An automatic bid is given to the winner of the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. The next five highest ranked teams will earn an at-large berth into the national tournament.

Current national No. 2 Clayton State is No. 1 in the first region rankings of the season. National No. 10 Limestone is just ahead of the Pacers at No. 2

USC Aiken and Clayton State are two of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the inaugural Southeast Region tally. Augusta State is eighth.

Winners of 29 of its last 30 regular-season home games, the nationally 16th-ranked USC Aiken women's basketball team owns an overall record of 19-4 (12-4 PBC) on the 2012-13 season. The Peach Belt Conference East Division-leading Pacers are now just one win away from securing their sixth 20-win campaign in the last seven seasons.

USC Aiken will next welcome Armstrong Atlantic State to the Convocation Center on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.

The USC Aiken basketball coaching staff has asked for Pacers fans to help USC Aiken “White Out” the Pirates of Armstrong. All USC Aiken fans are asked to wear white USC Aiken shirts in support of the Pacers that evening.

The Pacer Shoppe in the USC Aiken Student Activities Center will be selling some special white Pacer logo t-shirts in preparation for the “White Out.” The t-shirts are only $5.

The “White Out” is one of many special promotions on Feb. 23 at the Convocation Center.

The doubleheader on Feb. 23 will also be Zero Waste Day at the Convocation Center. Zero Waste Day is part of RecycleMania, which is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for USC Aiken to promote waste reduction activities to the campus community. Many special things are planned for Zero Waste Day.

During the doubleheader, the USC Aiken Dance Team will give a special performance. The Chukker Creek Dance Crew will also perform.

The USC Aiken-Armstrong doubleheader will be sponsored by Collette Ball. It will also be Carolina Musculoskeletal Institute Night at the Convocation Center.

In addition to all of this, there will also be a Heart Association fundraiser and Make-A-Wish fundraiser over the course of the evening in the Convocation Center lobby.
