INDIANAPOLIS – The nationally 16th-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team is
ranked third in the inaugural NCAA Division II Southeast Region
rankings of the 2012-13 season.
The region rankings were released by the Southeast Region
selection committee. The rankings are used to determine the region
participants from the Southeast Region for the 2013 NCAA Division
II Women's Basketball Championship.
Eight teams from the Southeast Region will receive an invitation
to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship. An
automatic bid is given to the winner of the Peach Belt Conference,
the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. The next
five highest ranked teams will earn an at-large berth into the
national tournament.
Current national No. 2 Clayton State is No. 1 in the first
region rankings of the season. National No. 10 Limestone is just
ahead of the Pacers at No. 2
USC Aiken and Clayton State are two of three Peach Belt
Conference teams ranked in the inaugural Southeast Region tally.
Augusta State is eighth.
Winners of 29 of its last 30 regular-season home games, the
nationally 16th-ranked USC Aiken women's basketball team
owns an overall record of 19-4 (12-4 PBC) on the 2012-13 season.
The Peach Belt Conference East Division-leading Pacers are now just
one win away from securing their sixth 20-win campaign in the last
seven seasons.
USC Aiken will next welcome Armstrong Atlantic State to the
Convocation Center on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tip-off is slated for 5:30
p.m.
The USC Aiken basketball coaching staff has asked for Pacers
fans to help USC Aiken “White Out” the Pirates of
Armstrong. All USC Aiken fans are asked to wear white USC Aiken
shirts in support of the Pacers that evening.
The Pacer Shoppe in the USC Aiken Student Activities Center will
be selling some special white Pacer logo t-shirts in preparation
for the “White Out.” The t-shirts are only $5.
The “White Out” is one of many special promotions on
Feb. 23 at the Convocation Center.
The doubleheader on Feb. 23 will also be Zero Waste Day at the
Convocation Center. Zero Waste Day is part of RecycleMania, which
is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for USC Aiken to
promote waste reduction activities to the campus community. Many
special things are planned for Zero Waste Day.
During the doubleheader, the USC Aiken Dance Team will give a
special performance. The Chukker Creek Dance Crew will also
perform.
The USC Aiken-Armstrong doubleheader will be sponsored by
Collette Ball. It will also be Carolina Musculoskeletal Institute
Night at the Convocation Center.
In addition to all of this, there will also be a Heart
Association fundraiser and Make-A-Wish fundraiser over the course
of the evening in the Convocation Center lobby.
