HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The nationally third-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is tied for 13th after one round of action at the Eighth Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at the 6,828-yard, par-72 Wexford Plantation Course.
The Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate was supposed to feature two rounds of action on Monday, but frost delayed the start of the opening round.
Due to the delay, each of the squads competing in the tournament has approximately five holes left in round two.
The final five holes of the second round will be completed on Tuesday morning. The third and final round will begin immediately following the conclusion of the second round.
USC Aiken is tied with Connecticut for 13th with a team score of 310.
Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) led the Pacers in the first round of action. Atkins closed out the first round with a 2-over 74. He is tied for 18th.
Mark Dickson (Edinburgh, Scotland/Firrhill) is currently in a tie for 56th after carding a 78 in round one. JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) and Drew McElveen (Murrells Inlet, S.C./St. James HS) are both tied for 61st with opening round scores of 79.
USC Aiken's Kyle Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth) finished the first round with an 83 to sit tied for 84th.
Tournament host Francis Marion is currently in the lead. The Patriots posted an opening round team score of 291. Richmond is right behind the Patriots in second at 292.
South Florida's Trey Valentine carded an opening round 3-under 69 to own the individual lead after one round of play.
