Clayton State Upsets 44th-Ranked Pacers

AIKEN, S.C. – Playing its third match in three days, the nationally 44th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team had its winning streak come to a close in a 7-2 Peach Belt Conference loss to Clayton State on Sunday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.

USC Aiken (5-2, 2-2 PBC) dropped all three doubles matches to Clayton State (2-1, 1-0 PBC). The Lakers would then claim four of the six singles flights to acquire the 7-2 win.

USC Aiken picked up singles wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.

Regionally 19th-ranked Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) obtained the win at No. 2 singles for USC Aiken when she bested Clayton State's Martina Dedaj 7-6, 6-1. 

Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) acquired a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles over Clayton State's Jessica Budd. 

USC Aiken will next welcome North Greenville to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Thursday, Feb. 21. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
