AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 44th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team acquired its fourth straight victory in a 5-4 win over Peach Belt Conference foe Montevallo at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Saturday.
USC Aiken (5-1, 2-1 PBC) opened its win over Montevallo (1-1, 0-1 PBC) by taking all three doubles matches.
The sweep of doubles would prove to be huge for the Pacers with Montevallo garnering wins in four for the six singles flights.
The four singles wins would not be enough to surpass the Pacers with USC Aiken winning at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to claim the 5-4 win.
USC Aiken's Giovanna Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Externato Mater Domus) bested Montevallo's Haley Highfield 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) collected USC Aiken's other singles point on the day with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles over Montevallo's Anais Robert.
The USC Aiken women's tennis team will next close out its weekend with a home match against Clayton State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.
