Nationally-Ranked Pacer Tennis Teams Sweep Queens

AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams swept Queens on Friday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.

The 44th-ranked USC Aiken women (4-1) claimed a 5-2 victory over the nationally 50th-ranked Queens women (3-1). The USC Aiken women have now won three straight matches.

The 35th-ranked Pacer men (2-1) obtained a 6-1 victory over the Queens men (3-1). 

The USC Aiken men entered singles action having taken two of the three doubles matches. The Pacer No. 1 doubles tandem of Kevin Zerath (Marseilles, France/Euromed Management Marseille) and Patrick Stiebinger (Weiden, Germany/Wichita State University) claimed the biggest win in doubles with an 8-0 win over Queens' No. 1 doubles duo of Ole-Jacob Meum and Andre Bafume.

Ranked 26th nationally in singles, Zerath then bested Queens' Joshua Bloch 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 1 singles.

Two Pacers claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles with Stiebinger downing Meum with that score at No. 2 singles and Andy Quirk (Glasgow, Scotland/Wisconsin) blanking Bryce Boothby at No. 4 singles. 

The USC Aiken women also entered singles action with a 2-1 advantage after earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. 

The Pacer women then took victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to claim the match.

Giovanna Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Externato Mater Domus) won 6-4, 7-6 over Morgan Roberts at No. 2 singles, while Julia Arruda (Valinhos, Brazil/Anglo Coc Valinhos) bested Erin Williams 7-5, 7-6 at No. 3 singles.

Shauna Williams (Columbia, S.C./Broward Community College) downed Queens' Amanda Poole 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.

The match against Queens was the only match on the week for the nationally 35th-ranked Pacer men. The match against Queens was the first of three on the weekend at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex for the USC Aiken women.

The nationally 44th-ranked Pacer women will welcome Peach Belt Conference foe Montevallo to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb. 16. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.

The USC Aiken women's tennis team will then close out its weekend with a home match against Clayton State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17. 

The Pacer men will next play host to North Greenville at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
