Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over visiting GRU Augusta Wednesday evening in the final home match of the season for the Pacers. Set scores were 20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-17.
The Pacers improve to 17-8 overall and 9-5 against conference foes.
Ashley Lind led the way with a team-best 11 kills while
Hannah Tierney added 10. Aly Johnson and
Taylor Stratton accounted for nine kills apiece while
Leah Rodgers chipped in six.
Amanda Bologna posted a team-best 30 assists to go along with six digs while
Sheila Walsh added 13 assists and seven digs. Rodgers amassed a team-high two aces.
Monica Cardona led everyone with 21 digs while Rodgers added 13.
Defensively, Stratton was in on seven blocks while Tierney and
Endea Ellison were in on five and four, respectively. Johnson added two while Rodgers posted one.
After dropping the first set, head coach
Glenn Cox's team swept the next three in fine fashion. The squad led from the outset of the second frame, taking a 3-0 lead behind Bologna's serving. During the run, Rodgers and Lind each had a kill. With the score at 12-9, Johnson, Rodgers and Tierney each slammed home a kill, forcing a time-out. The squad closed out the five-point win on a kill by Lind.
In the third frame, the Pacers struggled in the early going and neither team took more than a two-point edge. After falling behind 22-21, Tierney sliced the defense with a hard kill before an attack error by the Jaguars made it 23-22. After a time-out by GRU Augusta, the visitors evened the score at 23. However, an error by the Jaguars and a kill from Lind allowed the Pacers to register a 25-23 victory.
In what turned out to be the final set of the match, USC Aiken jumped out to a 7-2 lead behind two kills from Lind and one from Stratton. GRU Augusta fought back, evening the contest at nine.
Cox's team found itself trailing 12-11 before Tierney befuddled the defense with a tip for a kill. The point sparked a 7-0 run by the home team.
During the run, Rodgers amassed back-to-back aces for a 16-12 lead. Tierney and Stratton blocked a shot while Bologna took a pass from Cardona for a kill.
USC Aiken never looked back, taking match point on a block from Ellison and Stratton.
It marked the last home match for seniors

Leah Rodgers.
The Pacers hit the road Friday for a match at Montevallo. It is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
