Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 65-55 road contest at Limestone Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.
The Pacers are now 2-5 on the season.
Senior Porsha Martin led everyone with a game-high 16 points on a six-of-10 effort from the floor. She also connected on all four charity tosses. Martin snagged a team-best six rebounds and added a pair of steals in 32 minutes of work.
Mariah Durian netted 10 points while pulling down four boards in the loss. Amaura Brandt contributed 10 markers in addition to four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Courtney Mealing came off the bench to hit for five points to go along with four rebounds and sharing team-high honors with three assists.
Head coach Mike Brandt's team hit 19-of-52 shots from the field (36.5 percent), but managed to drill just three-of-14 (21.4 percent) from downtown. The squad also hit 14 foul shots in the game.
USC Aiken managed nine steals to seven by the home squad. The Pacers also forced 18 turnovers while committing one less.
Amaura Brandt hit the first shot of the game for a 2-0 lead. USC Aiken maintained a 6-5 lead, but Limestone hit a three-point bucket for an 8-6 advantage. Martin tied it at eight with 12 minutes to play in the opening period of action.
After Kassy Johannsen tallied a free throw with 6:23 to play in the first half to pull Brandt's team within five at 17-12, the host squad went on a 13-4 run to take a 30-16 lead into intermission.
Trailing 48-32 with 10:12 to go in the game, Mealing drilled a deep three-point shot, making it a 48-35 game. Mackenzie Reese hit a lay-up, pulling the team within 11. After a turnover, Amaura Brandt hit a pair of free throws to make it a 48-39 game. Martin swished two charity tosses with 7:20 to go for a seven-point contest, but it was as close as the visitors would come in the game.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday, Dec. 3, when the team hosts Southern Poly in a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
