AIKEN, S.C. – Former University of South
Carolina Aiken men's basketball standout Re'mon Nelson
has earned a roster spot with the Canton Charge of the NBA
D-League.
Nelson is the lone player on the team from a Division II
institution.
“I am extremely happy for Re'mon and his
family,” head coach Vince Alexander said. “To
accomplish what he has at 5-9 speaks volumes about how big of a
heart and how much determination he has. Re'mon is an
outstanding student of the game and a tremendous athlete. We are
looking forward to watching him in his professional
career.”
Nelson earned All-America honors with the Pacers last year and
guided the team to the Elite Eight for the first time in school
history.
The 5-9 guard from Columbus, Ohio, was honored as the Peach Belt
Conference Player of the Year, PBC Tournament MVP and Southeast
Regional Most Outstanding Player in addition to picking up
first-team all-district accolades by the NABC. Nelson was also
tabbed Daktronics all-Southeast Region and was the team MVP.
During his senior season, Nelson averaged 13.9 points and 6.3
assists per game. He canned 45 percent of his field goals,
including 42.2 percent from downtown.
The Canton Charge open the season Nov. 29 against Springfield at 7
