Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to North Georgia Saturday evening in a Peach Belt Conference match.
The Pacers fall to 8-8-2 for the season.
In a foul-plagued first half, Melissa Westphal scooped up the first shot of the match, coming off the boot of Caroline Wallace 1:46 into the affair.
USC Aiken worked to gain possession in its offensive third of the pitch, eventually earning a corner kick by Aubrey Danielson at the 5:38 mark.
The Pacers were unable to get their first shot of the match until Caroline Gillespie ripped an attempt at the 19:10 mark that was just high of the crossbar.
In the 21st minute, the Nighthawks earned a corner kick which they converted into the first score of the match with 21:01 on the clock.
Head coach Sue Vodicka's team earned another corner kick in the 26th minute of play, but the squad was unable to get a shot off.
Trailing 1-0 entering the second period, the visitors struck again in the 50th minute off a cross into the top left of the frame.
In the 57th minute of action, Akeyla Furbert nearly got the Pacers on the board. After a corner kick by Jenna Beauregard, Furbert attempted a shot toward the near post only to have the keeper earn a tough save.
Megan Smits rocketed a shot toward the goal that landed just inches above the crossbar in the 73rd minute. She also missed one wide of the target in the 81st minute. Olivia Stiltner had a shot in the 85th minute, but the UNG keeper was up to the task of stopping it.
For the match, USC Aiken was out-shot seven to five. Both squads totaled five corner kicks.
Westphal stopped three shots while playing between the pipes for 45 minutes. Alli Edens played the last 45 minutes in goal for the Pacers.
The match marked the last home contest in the outstanding careers of Joi Chrishon, Aubrey Danielson, Alli Edens, Kyle Maguire and Melissa Westphal.
