Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team picked up a victory in one set, but was unable to complete the upset against league-leading Armstrong Saturday afternoon, falling by a 3-1 count. Set scores were 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25.

USC Aiken completes the regular season with a 17-12 record, including a 9-9 effort in the Peach Belt Conference.

After falling in the first set, the squad came out in fine fashion to pick up the second-set victory.

Trailing 11-9, a service error pulled the team within one. It sparked a 6-0 run. With Danielle Mercer serving, the home team committed three errors and Taylor Stratton took a pass from Amanda Bologna for a thunderous kill.

The Pacers pushed the margin to five on a kill by Ashley Diedrich, making it 22-17. After the teams traded points, Katie Toman sliced the defense for a spectacular ace. An attack error by the Pirates allowed head coach Glenn Cox's team to take away the 25-18 win.

Armstrong came out strong in the third stanza, taking a 10-3 lead. However, the Pacers pulled within five when Aly Johnson slammed home a kill from a Bologna pass, but it was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.

In a battle during the fourth frame, Toman's ace pushed USC Aiken ahead at 13-12. After trading points, Mercer found the court off her serve for a 15-13 lead.

Johnson and Hannah Tierney blocked back-to-back attacks by the Pirates for a 19-17 edge, but the Pirates reeled off five straight points and held off USC Aiken for the 25-21 win.

Diedrich led the way with 13 kills while Tierney and Stratton added eight and seven, respectively. Bologna dished out 25 assists and tied with Mercer and Toman for a team-high two assists.

Mercer and Walsh guided the squad with 11 and 10 digs, respectively. At the net, Johnson had four block assists while Tierney added three.

The Pacers will play Francis Marion in the upcoming conference tournament beginning Friday. Game time will be announced Monday.
