Pacers Earn Double-Overtime Draw At UNC Pembroke

Box Score

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team earned a 0-0 double-overtime draw with UNC Pembroke Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The team is now 8-7-2 for the season and 3-5-2 against conference foes.

The Pacers tallied the first shot of the contest just 7:05 into the match. USC Aiken controlled the field for much of the first half, registering seven shots compared to UNCP's four.

In the first 45 minutes of action, head coach Sue Vodicka's team produced four shots on goal while Melissa Westphal turned away both of the Braves' shots on target.

In the 13th minute, both Hannah Allison and Aubrey Danielson tried to find the net, but the UNCP keeper was able to stop both shots.

Caroline Gillespie nearly got the Pacers on the board as she fired home a shot in the 37th minute, but the keeper was up to the challenge. It was also the last shot of the first frame for Vodicka's team.

In the second period, Allison rifled a shot toward the goal, but was unable to connect. The team earned three straight corner kicks, but the team managed just one shot that sailed wide of the goal.

Heaven Tylee swerved through a pair of defenders to take a shot in the 85th minute, but it was saved.

After the Braves took the first shot of the first overtime session, the Pacers countered with two headers – one of which was high and another that was saved.

USC Aiken continued applying pressure, posting the only three shots of the second overtime period, but none found the back of the net.

For the match, USC Aiken rattled off 19 shots compared to seven by the Braves. The team had nine shots on goal while limiting UNC Pembroke to just two.

Westphal played the first 45 minutes in goal while Alli Edens saw the final 65 minutes between the pipes.

The Pacers return home Saturday when they host North Georgia on Senior Day. The match is slated to start at 4:30 p.m., with Senior Day festivities following the contest.
