Pacers Obtain Fourth Straight Victory in Home League Win Over Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. – Santoine Butler finished with a double-double and the University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team acquired its fourth straight victory in a 84-64 home Peach Belt Conference win over Flagler on Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.

The victory allowed USC Aiken (13-5, 9-2 PBC) to stay on top in the Peach Belt Conference East Division. The Pacers have now won 25 of their last 26 regular-season home games.

Butler (Augusta, Ga./Gardner-Webb) closed out the 20-point win over Flagler (9-9, 5-6 PBC) with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He also had one block and one steal.

The double-double was the second of the 2012-13 season for Butler. 

Two Pacers in total finished with double-digit rebounds with Paul Larsen (Mooresville, N.C./Mercer) claiming 11 rebounds to go along with his eight points, two steals and one block. Larsen has now obtained double-figure rebounds in USC Aiken's last six games.

Three Pacers finished in double figures in the game with DeVontae Wright (Goose Creek, S.C./The Citadel) leading all USC Aiken players in the game by scoring a Pacer career-best 17 points. Wright was 7-for-8 from the field in the game. He also had four assists, three rebounds and one steal.

Re'mon Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester HS) finished just behind Wright with 16 points. Nelson concluded the Pacer win with seven assists, three rebounds and one block.

USC Aiken's all-time steals leader is now just two assists away from becoming the all-time leader in program history in assists. Nelson currently has 438 in his career to sit just one back of current program record holder Eric Dugans (1999-2003), who ended his career with 439 assists. 

All nine Pacers that saw action in the game scored.

Flagler had four players in double figures with Ante Gospic leading the way with 21 points and nine rebounds. 

USC Aiken closed out the win over Flagler shooting 58.5 percent (31-for-53) as a team. The Pacers shot a scorching 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from beyond the arc in the game. The Pacers hit 15 of their 19 (78.9 percent) free throw attempts in the game.

Flagler shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) as a team in its loss to the Pacers. Flagler connected on just 31.8 percent (7-for-22) of its 3-point attempts in the contest. The Saints could only manage to hit 5 of their 13 (38.5 percent) of their free throw attempts.

USC Aiken held a commanding 44-23 rebound advantage in the game. 

The Pacers will next travel to Augusta, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 2 to face off against rival Augusta State. Tip-off in the game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
