Box Score BREVARD, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team claimed its first win of the 2012 season with a dominating 3-1 non-conference road victory over Brevard on Saturday afternoon.
Three different players found the back of the net for the Pacers.
Megan Smits (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS) netted the first goal of the contest for USC Aiken in the 27th-minute.
A little while later in the 35th-minute, Alex Cohen (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier HS) rocketed a left-footed shot in from 18 yards out to give the Pacers a 2-0 advantage.
Kim Beyer (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown HS) claimed the final tally of the match for the Pacers in the 70th-minute when she opportunistically took advantage of a corner kick that was not cleared well. Beyer collected the failed clearance and then blasted a shot into the back of the net from 22 yards out.
Brevard scored its lone goal of the match in the 79th-minute.
The Pacers owned a commanding 26-6 shot advantage in the contest. USC Aiken also had a 7-1 corner kick advantage in its win.
USC Aiken is now 1-2-1 on the 2012 season. Brevard with the loss dropped to 1-2-1 on the year.
USC Aiken will return home next to face South Atlantic Conference power Wingate at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10.
Two days later, USC Aiken will make the short drive to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on NCAA Division I and in-state foe South Carolina State. The Pacers and Bulldogs will be meeting for the first time at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
