MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's cross country team finished eighth as a team in the 6K Falcon Classic on Saturday morning.
The event ran on Montevallo's home course served as the Pre-Conference race for the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, which will be contested in Montevallo, Ala. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.
Keely Gillespie (Belvedere, S.C./North Augusta) was the top finisher for the Pacers in the Falcon Classic, ending her efforts in 16th. Her time of 24:33.15 is the fourth-best 6K time in school history. Gillespie, who claimed her first-ever individual career victory last week at the Francis Marion Invitational, now has four of the five top 6K times in school history.
Four Pacers finished in the top-55 individually in total. Kayla Millholland (Hampton, Ga./Luella HS) claimed 50th place with a time of 27:22.12.
Hillary Spears (Bellbrook, Ohio/Northwood University) was just one spot behind in 51st place with a time of 27:23.18. Morgan Payne (Leesville, S.C./Pelion HS) was 53rd with a time of 27:37.47.
Clayton State claimed the women's team title at the Falcon Classic. Montevallo's Haley Evans captured the individual title with a time of 23:20.72.
USC Aiken will next commence the month of October by participating at the Augusta State Jaguar Invite at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga. The ASU Jaguar Invite is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5.
