Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team won two matches on Saturday to complete the Johnson C. Smith Tournament undefeated at 3-0.
USC Aiken (9-5) defeated St. Augustine's College and host Johnson C. Smith 3-0 in each match.
Match 1 – USC Aiken vs. St. Augustine's 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-13)
The Pacers won a tight first set against the Falcons (4-9) before taking the next two sets in a dominant fashion.
USC Aiken finished the game with a .311 hitting percentage and spread the kills around as no Pacer finished with double-digit kills. Ashley Diedrich and Hannah Tierney led the way for the Pacers with seven kills each. Deidrich (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips HS) added seven service aces and five digs as well.
Tierney (Winchester, Va./James Wood HS) added two blocks to go along with the seven kills. Sheila Walsh (Fort Mill, S.C./Nation Ford HS) paced the offense dishing out 16 assists and Ashley Farwell (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest-Rolesville HS) added nine assists and three digs.
Claire Patten (Boulder, Colo./Mercer ) led USC Aiken with eight digs and added a service ace.
The Falcons offense was led by Brittany Hicks and Jamie Goff, who each had five kills.
Match 2 - USC Aiken vs. Johnson C. Smith W 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-18)
USC Aiken defeated tournament host Johnson C. Smith (1-7) in dominating fashion in three sets.
The Pacers had two players record double-digit kills led by Leah Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary HS) with 12. Diedrich added 10 kills and six digs.
Patten led USCA in digs again with 15 and was the only Pacer with double-digit digs. Danika Maggard (Maize, Kan./Cowley College) had a strong match, chipping in with seven digs to go along with seven kills.
Walsh once again facilitated much of the offense with a match-high 21 assists.
The Golden Bulls had the only player to record a double-double with Kayla Brazemore corralling 10 digs and adding 10 assists.
The Pacers are next in action at home on Tuesday, Sept. 25 as they begin Peach Belt Conference play hosting rival Augusta State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
