Pacers Remain Perfect in League Play With Thrilling 3-2 Win Over Young Harris

Box Score

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – A goal in the 90th-minute by Kim Beyer led the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team to a dramatic 3-2 Peach Belt Conference win over Young Harris at Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

Beyer's second goal of the year came at the 89:23 mark of the match. Beyer (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown HS) was assisted on the game-winning goal by Aubrey Danielson (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman HS).

The goal was made possible when Danielson's last-minute corner kick was placed in the net by Beyer, who took advantage of her opportunity by hitting her shot off the crossbar into the goal.

The 90th-minute tally allowed USC Aiken (3-4-1, 2-0-0 PBC) to start the year 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference play for the first time in program history. The Pacers at 2-0 are currently tied with Lander for first in the Peach Belt Conference.

Young Harris (4-2-0, 0-2-0 PBC) scored the first goal of the match just 2:01 into the contest. Mika Lopes claimed her second goal of the year off a Kimmie Tierney assist.

The Pacers would not let the Young Harris 1-0 early advantage last long with Megan Smits (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS) collecting her third goal of the year in the 14th-minute off an assist from Heaven Tylee (Manassas, Va./Osbourne Park HS).

Young Harris would take the lead back just before halftime in the 39th-minute when Whitney Thomas acquired her third goal of the 2012 season.

The Mountain Lions would hold on to that lead until the 80th-minute when an own goal by Young Harris evened the contest at 2-2.

USC Aiken pressured the Mountain Lions heavily over the course of the rest of the match, resulting in the Beyer goal.

Young Harris held a slight 9-8 shot advantage in the contest. The Pacers held a 5-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

The Pacers will next welcome current national No. 18 Columbus State to the "Pacer Pit" for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 22.
