Box Score LAURINBURG, N.C. – Justin Barlotta scored in the seventh minute of overtime to lead the University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory over St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon at Knights Field.
Despite out-shooting St. Andrews 20-11 in the first two halves, the Pacers were unable to find the back of the net in regulation.
In the 97th-minute, Barlotta (Summerville, S.C./Spartanburg Methodist) was able to finally scratch across a Pacer goal and keep the Pacers undefeated at 1-0-2 on the young 2012 season.
The Pacers finished the match with a 24-11 shot advantage over St. Andrews (2-4). The Pacers owned a 4-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
USC Aiken goalkeeper Joshua Poissant (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks HS) played all 96:23 minutes in goal for the Pacers. Poissant made five saves in picking up the clean sheet.
The Pacers will next close out their season-opening four-game road swing by opening Peach Belt Conference play against new league foe Young Harris at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in Young Harris, Ga. The match will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Pacers will commence their 2012 home campaign by welcoming Belmont Abbey to the "Pacer Pit" at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. USC Aiken and Belmont Abbey will be meeting on the pitch for the first time since 2007.
