Pacers Fall 3-1 to NCAA Division I SC State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken fell 3-1 to NCAA Division I South Carolina State on Wednesday evening.

South Carolina State (5-5) started off the game by scoring in the first two minutes to take an early 1-0 lead.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of SC State until the 60th-minute when the Bulldogs added another goal off the boot of Dominique Brown.

USC Aiken (1-4-1) pulled to within one in the 79th-minute when Courtney Szabo (Lexington, S.C./Lexington HS) scored on a penalty kick. Two minutes later, SC State scored on a penalty kick of their own to put the game out of reach of the Pacers.

SC State held a slight 13-9 shot advantage in the contest. The Bulldogs owned a 5-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

USC Aiken goalkeeper Alli Edens (Lexington, S.C./College of Charleston) made five saves in the Pacer loss.  

USC Aiken will next open its 2012 Peach Belt Conference campaign with a 7 p.m. home tilt against Georgia College on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Georgia College match is the first of six straight league encounters for the Pacers.
