Pacers Complete Play in The Invitational at the Ocean Course

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The nationally fifth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's golf team finished in 14th place at The Invitational at the Ocean Course at the par-72, 7,344-yard Ocean Course.

The tournament hosted by the College of Charleston was held at the site of the 2012 PGA Championship.

The Pacers finished the three rounds of The Invitational at the Ocean Course with a 935 (307-317-311) as a team.

Three Pacers concluded The Invitational at the Ocean Course in the top-50 with Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) leading the way with a top-20 performance. The 2012 First-Team All-American closed out USC Aiken's season-opening tournament with a three-round tally of 230 (77-76-77). His score of 230 allowed him to tie for 18th individually.

JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) finished just behind Atkins in a tie for 27th with a three-round score of 232 (76-81-75).

Andrew Ward (York, S.C./Clover HS) was the final Pacer in the top-50, claiming a tie for 44th with a three-round score of 237 (78-79-80).

Florida claimed the team title with a three-round team score of 882 (289-288-305). UT Arlington came in second at 906 (310-292-304).

Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes (73-67-80=220) had his worst round of the tournament in Tuesday's final round, but despite posting an 80 in the final round he was able to hold on for a one-shot victory over two others tied for second at 221.

USC Aiken will next head back to Kiawah Island, S.C. to play host to the Ninth Annual Kiawah Island Invitational. The tournament will be contested on Monday, Sept. 17 and Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The Kiawah Island Invitational will take place at the par-72 Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Designed by Gary Player, the course was rated at "4.5 stars" by Golf Digest. The Pacers are three-time winners of the event.
