AIKEN, S.C. – Preparing to enter his 26th season at the helm of the University of South Carolina Aiken softball program, Jerry Snyder released the 2013 Pacer softball schedule on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012.
The 2013 USC Aiken softball schedule features 10 home doubleheaders at JH Satcher Field to go along with a full Peach Belt Conference slate. Other than a regular season tournament on March 2 and March 3, USC Aiken will play a doubleheader with its opposition on all its scheduled dates in the 2013 season.
"Any schedule that contains all of the Peach Belt schools is going to be a tough one, but then add all the other schools that made to the Southeast Regional last year and throw in the other top schools of each of the conferences in the region and you have really made one of the strongest schedules in the country," noted Snyder. "We will have plenty of strength of schedule in the region; now we have to go out and put together a winning season so we can make it back to postseason play."
The 2013 USC Aiken softball schedule will begin on Saturday, Feb. 9 with the Pacers playing host to South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. USC Aiken is opening its season against Catawba for the second straight year. The Pacers own a 19-3 all-time series lead over Catawba.
The home opener for the Pacers will give way to a season-long five straight road doubleheaders.
The tough opening stretch for the Pacers will start just one day after the Catawba twinbill on Sunday, Feb. 10 in Charlotte, N.C. against Queens. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. USC Aiken owns a 12-4 all-time series advantage over Queens.
USC Aiken will then travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face off against West Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 13. USC Aiken and West Georgia will be meeting for the first time since 2008. First pitch in the scheduled twinbill is slated for 2 p.m.
The Pacers will close out their second week of the 2013 regular season with two doubleheaders in the Volunteer State. The Pacers will first square off against first-time opponent King on Saturday, Feb. 16. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
USC Aiken will then travel to Greeneville, Tenn. to take on South Atlantic Conference foe Tusculum on Sunday, Feb. 17. The doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. The Pacers own a 10-2 all-time series lead over Tusculum.
After the Tennessee road swing, USC Aiken will play its final doubleheader of its five straight road doubleheaders against Erskine in Due West, S.C. The Pacers and Flying Fleet will begin game one of their doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. The Pacers own a healthy 17-4 all-time series lead over the Flying Fleet.
USC Aiken will close out its first month of the 2013 regular season next by welcoming Brevard to the friendly confines of JH Satcher Field. USC Aiken and Brevard, which features former Pacer standout Lauren Locklear as an assistant coach, are scheduled to start game one of their doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
The Pacers will open the month of March by traveling to Duncan, S.C. to take part in the Mid-South Classic. USC Aiken's foes are not known as of yet, but the tournament will contested on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3. The tournament will be the first regular season tournament for the Pacers since 2009.
After the Mid-South Classic, USC Aiken will play four of its next six doubleheaders on the road. USC Aiken will commence the stretch by welcoming Wingate to Aiken on Wednesday, March 6. The two teams will begin their doubleheader at 3 p.m.
USC Aiken opens its 2013 league action on the road on Thursday, March 7 against Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. The two league foes are scheduled to commence their doubleheader at 3 p.m.
USC Aiken will welcome 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional champion Flagler to JH Satcher Field on Saturday, March 9. The Pacers and Saints are scheduled to start game one of their doubleheader at 1 p.m.
The Pacers will travel to Hickory, N.C. next to face off against Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday, March 10. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
USC Aiken will tangle with first-time foe and new league opponent Young Harris on Wednesday, March 13 at 3 p.m. in Young Harris, Ga. The very next day the Pacers will face off against North Georgia on Thursday, March 14. Action in the twinbill in Dahlonega, Ga. is set for 2 p.m.
A week later, USC Aiken will start what will amount to a season-long three straight home doubleheaders.
USC Aiken will first welcome PBC foe Georgia Southwestern to its home facility for a doubleheader. Action in game one is slated to get underway at 4 p.m.
USC Aiken is set to welcome Shaw to JH Satcher Field on Sunday, March 24. The doubleheader with the Bears will begin at 1 p.m.
The last twinbill of the four consecutive home doubleheaders is set for Tuesday, March 26 against league foe Armstrong Atlantic State. The doubleheader will open at 2 p.m. Three days after the doubleheader with the Pirates, USC Aiken will hit the road for a conference doubleheader against UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C. on Friday, March 29. The doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m.
The Pacers will open the month of April with a home doubleheader against Carson-Newman on Wednesday, April 3. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
USC Aiken will face off against rival Augusta State in Augusta, Ga. on Friday, April 5. The doubleheader is set to commence at 2 p.m. Two days later, USC Aiken will welcome Columbus State to JH Satcher Field for a doubleheader. The doubleheader is set to start at 2 p.m.
USC Aiken's final road foray of the 2013 regular season will feature the Pacers traveling to Milledgeville, Ga. for a doubleheader with Georgia College on Wednesday, April 10. The twinbill is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
USC Aiken closes out its 2013 regular season at home against Lander on Saturday, April 13. The doubleheader against Lander will serve as Senior Day for the Pacers. The twinbill is set to start at 2 p.m.
The USC Aiken softball team compiled a 26-17 record in the 2012 season. The 26 wins marked the 18th time in the last 19 seasons that the Pacers had earned at least 20 victories.
USC Aiken went 10-10 in Peach Belt Conference play and went to the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament by defeating rival Augusta State 3-0 in the quarterfinals.
