AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
baseball team is ranked 13th in the latest Collegiate Baseball
Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.
It marks the 13th time in the 2012 season that USC Aiken has
been ranked in the top-30.
Eight weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at No. 14. The Pacers
moved into the top-10 for the first time in the 2012 season seven
weeks ago at No. 10. Six weeks ago, USC Aiken ascended to the top-5
in the nation for the first time at No. 4. Five weeks ago, USC
Aiken was ranked third.
Four weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at 11th. The
Pacers were ranked 14th three weeks ago. Two weeks
ago, USC Aiken was tabbed 17th. The Pacers were ranked
12th last week.
USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in
the top-30. Francis Marion is presently the highest ranked PBC
squad at No. 6. PBC regular season champion Armstrong is just out
of the top-10 in 11th. Georgia College is currently 28th, while
Lander is presently 30th.
Tampa moved into the top spot in this week's national
tally. Tusculum is second in the latest national poll.
Winners of their last four, USC Aiken (34-16) will next
participate in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament,
which will be contested May 9-13 at Golden Park in Columbus,
Ga.
As the third seed in the Peach Belt Conference East Division,
USC Aiken will open the PBC Tournament at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May
9 against the West second-seeded Montevallo Falcons (24-26). USC
Aiken took two of three from Montevallo in their three-game league
set Feb. 17-18.
