WILSON, N.C. – Three University of South Carolina Aiken
baseball players have been tabbed to the National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region
Team.
USC Aiken outfielder Nick Aranas and Pacer catcher Josh Miller
were both Second-Team choices, while shortstop Stephen Carmon was
tabbed Honorable Mention All-Southeast Region.
A two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection, Aranas
(Lexington, S.C./Lexington) concluded his senior season for USC
Aiken hitting .357 (71-for-199). The April 3 Peach Belt Conference
Player of the Week ended his year with 52 RBIs and 48 runs
scored.
The 2010 First-Team All-America selection slugged .558 during
the 2012 season. He had an on-base percentage of .457.
A preseason All-American, Aranas stole 19 bases during the 2012
season. He had 24 extra-base knocks on 15 doubles, seven home runs
and two triples.
Aranas is USC Aiken's all-time record holder in at-bats, runs
scored, hits, doubles, triples and total bases.
Miller started 50 games at catcher for USC Aiken in the 2012
season. The First-Team All-Peach Belt Conference selection hit .376
(79-for-210) in his junior campaign.
The 2012 Peach Belt Conference Tournament All-Tournament Team
member had 21 extra-base hits on 14 doubles and seven home
runs.
Miller owned a slugging percentage of .543 in 2012. He finished
his year with an on-base percentage of .441.
In total, Miller (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) had a team-best 57 RBIs
to go along with 46 runs scored.
Carmon led the Peach Belt Conference and USC Aiken with 45
stolen bases in the 2012 season. The 45 stolen bases place him in
the top-5 in the country in the category.
Carmon (Camden, S.C./Camden) closed out his Pacer career with a
school-record 100 stolen bases.
The two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection hit .348
(79-for-227) in the 2012 season. He scored a team-best 57 runs to
go along with 28 RBIs.
The 2009 Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year is currently
listed as the third toughest to strike out in NCAA Division II.
Carmon only struck out six times in the 2012 season.
Carmon was recently named a Tino Martinez Award Semifinalist.
The award is presented to the most outstanding player in NCAA
Division II college baseball. The annual honor is named after the
former University of Tampa Spartan, United States Olympian,
First-Round draft pick and Major League Baseball All-Star, Tino
Martinez.
