AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
baseball team is ranked 11th in the latest Collegiate Baseball
Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.
It marks the ninth time in the 2012 season that USC Aiken has
been ranked in the top-30. The Pacers were ranked 28th
in the Feb. 7 poll. Seven weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at No.
29. USC Aiken was No. 22 six weeks ago. Five weeks ago, USC Aiken
was tied for 17th.
Four weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at No. 14. The Pacers moved
into the top-10 for the first time in the 2012 season three weeks
ago at No. 10 Two weeks ago, USC Aiken ascended to the top-5 in the
nation for the first time at No. 4. Last week, USC Aiken was ranked
third.
USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference schools ranked in
the latest top-30. Armstrong is the highest-ranked PBC school at
No. 7.
The Pacers have a tough stretch ahead where they will face two
of the other three ranked PBC schools over the course of the next
two weeks. USC Aiken already took two of three from national No. 30
Lander.
The Pacers will next hit the road to face off against
16th-ranked Catawba at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 in Salisbury,
N.C. The contest is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
USC Aiken (26-12, 15-9 PBC) will then close the week at home
with a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against national No.
24 UNC Pembroke.
The three-game league series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium is
scheduled to get underway with a doubleheader on Saturday, April
14. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1
p.m.
The third and final game of the USC Aiken-UNC Pembroke series
will be contested at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.
After two mid-week games at Roberto Hernandez Stadium against
CSRA rivals Paine (Tuesday, April 17) and Augusta State (Wednesday,
April 18), USC Aiken will then close out its Peach Belt Conference
campaign with a three-game series against national No. 20 Francis
Marion in Florence, S.C. on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April
22.
