Snyder Collects 600th Career Win in Doubleheader Sweep of Pfeiffer

AIKEN S.C. – USC Aiken head softball coach Jerry Snyder collected his 600th win in game one of the doubleheader sweep of Pfeiffer at J.H. Satcher Field on April 6, 2012.

USC Aiken (23-10) won game one, 2-1. The Pacers garnered a 5-1 victory in game two.

In his 25th season at the helm of the USC Aiken softball program, Snyder has led the program to seven 30-win seasons. USC Aiken has won 20 or more games in 18 of the last 19 seasons.

Snyder now has 601 career victories. He has led the Pacers to victory in 10 of their last 11 outings.

In game one of the doubleheader USC Aiken continued their winning ways in extra innings by defeating the Falcons, 2-1, in 8 innings.

USC Aiken is now 5-0 this season in extra-inning games.

India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) moved to within two games of her 20th win of the season in the game one win. Kornegay (18-8) fanned 14 batters in the contest. The 14 strikeouts give her 206 on the season which is 13 shy of her total as PBC Freshman of the year.

The only run allowed by the Pacers was unearned in the first inning. She only allowed two hits.

The Pacers had three players with multiple hits in the game. Kaitlyn White(Columbia, S.C./College of Charleston), Cortney Sadler (Bradenton, Fla./State College of Fla., Manatee-Sarasota), and Lindsey Jones(North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta HS) led the team with two hits each in game one.

The Pacers had the bases loaded in the 8th inning when Brittany Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll HS) stepped to plate as a pinch-hitter with two outs. She grounded the ball outside the reach of the shortstop to drive in Kelley King(Chesterfield, S.C./Chesterfield HS) as the game-winning run.

USC Aiken out hit Pfeiffer (17-30), 10-2, in game one.

Lindsey Russell (4-9) earned the loss for the Falcons

No one for Pfeiffer had multiple hits.

The bats would come alive for the Pacers in game two. USC Aiken would strike first with two runs in the first inning.

Pfeiffer cut the lead in half in the visitor half of the second inning. A Victoria Burkett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert HS) home run in the fourth inning would be enough to give the Pacers the victory. The two-run home run was Burkett's second of the season.

Samantha Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS) went the distance for the Pacers. Lemm (5-2) struck out five in the game and only gave up one run and five hits.

Two Pacers had multiple hits in the game. Burkett and Brittney Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll HS) both had two hits in three at-bats. Burkett also led the team with two RBIs.

The Pacers out hit the Falcons, 8-5, in game two.

Pfeiffer was led at the plate by Sadie Sane who had three hits in three at-bats.

The Falcons utilized three pitchers in the game. Melanie Conklin (6-12) collected the loss for Pfeiffer.

USC Aiken will next travel to Brevard, N.C. Wednesday, April 11. The Pacers will be home again on April 13 against PBC foe Armstrong Atlantic State.
