Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team picked up a 2-0 shutout victory over Carson-Newman on Tuesday afternoon at the Lady Eagle Softball Complex.
The victory concludes a nine-game road swing for the Pacers. USC Aiken (21-10) was 8-1 in the nine games.
USC Aiken and Carson-Newman (23-18) were supposed to play a doubleheader on Tuesday, but the second game was postponed due to inclement weather.
India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) led the Pacers in their victory on Tuesday, striking out 12. Kornegay (17-8) only allowed two hits in her seven innings in the circle.
Mary Shealy took the loss for Carson-Newman. Shealy (23-18) fanned just three Pacers.
No Pacer was able to register multiple hits, but USC Aiken did out-hit Carson-Newman, 5-2, in the contest.
USC Aiken scored its first run of the contest in the top of the fourth when Lindsey Jones (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta HS) scored on a wild pitch. Jones had started the fourth by singling to centerfield.
The Pacers would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Shannon Traylor (Prosperity, S.C./Mid-Carolina HS) doubled in Brittney Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll HS).
USC Aiken will next welcome rival Augusta State to JH Satcher Field on Thursday, April 5. The twinbill is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. on April 5.
It is one of two home doubleheaders for the Pacers on the week, as USC Aiken will welcome non-conference foe Pfeiffer to JH Satcher Field one day later on Friday, April 6. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
