NEW YORK – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf
team moved up three spots to 13th in the
latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II College
Coaches' Poll.
USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in
the top-20.
UNC Pembroke is the highest ranked PBC squad at No. 8. Georgia
College is 16th in the latest poll, while Armstrong is
18. Georgia Southwestern is the final PBC school in the top-20 at
No. 19.
Barry remained the top team in the nation in the latest national
tally.
USC Aiken is currently second in the latest NCAA Division II
Southeast Region rankings.
The second spot in the region tally virtually assures USC Aiken
of a spot in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, which
will be contested May 7-9 at Rock Barn in Conover, N.C.
The official NCAA Division II Men's Golf Selection Show
will be streamed live at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 27 on
NCAA.com.
The South/Southeast Regional will consist of 10 teams each from
both the South and Southeast regions of NCAA Division II. In the
Southeast Region, an automatic bid is given to the winner of the
Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference and Conference
Carolinas. The next seven highest ranked teams will earn an
at-large berth into the national tournament.
USC Aiken is looking to advance to regional play for the
20th time in the last 21 seasons.
USC Aiken, who has reached as high as No. 1 in the Golfstat NCAA
Division II Head-to-Head standings in 2011-12, is currently ranked
14th by GolfStat.
If the Pacers earn a bid to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast
Regional, USC Aiken will be vying to make its 16th appearance in
the NCAA Championship Tournament in the regional.
USC Aiken most recently finished tied for first at the Peach
Belt Conference Championship. UNC Pembroke claimed the team
championship on the first playoff hole.
The Pacers have finished second or better in five of their 11
tournaments so far in the 2011-12 season.
USC Aiken's best finish came in claiming the team title at
the Bearcat Golf Classic on March 27.
USC Aiken under Hall of Fame head coach Michael Carlisle in the
NCAA Division II Tournament has three NCAA Division II National
Championships (2004, 2005, 2006) and three NCAA Division II
runner-up finishes (1995, 1996 and 1999).
In the past eight years, USC Aiken has five NCAA National
Championships, which includes three team titles and two individual
crowns (Jeff Goff, 2008; Dane Burkhart, 2005).
