USC Aiken Up to 13th in Latest Golf World/Nike Golf National Poll

NEW YORK – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team moved up three spots to 13th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II College Coaches' Poll.

USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top-20.

UNC Pembroke is the highest ranked PBC squad at No. 8. Georgia College is 16th in the latest poll, while Armstrong is 18. Georgia Southwestern is the final PBC school in the top-20 at No. 19.

Barry remained the top team in the nation in the latest national tally.

USC Aiken is currently second in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings.

The second spot in the region tally virtually assures USC Aiken of a spot in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, which will be contested May 7-9 at Rock Barn in Conover, N.C.

The official NCAA Division II Men's Golf Selection Show will be streamed live at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 27 on NCAA.com.

The South/Southeast Regional will consist of 10 teams each from both the South and Southeast regions of NCAA Division II. In the Southeast Region, an automatic bid is given to the winner of the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. The next seven highest ranked teams will earn an at-large berth into the national tournament.

USC Aiken is looking to advance to regional play for the 20th time in the last 21 seasons.

USC Aiken, who has reached as high as No. 1 in the Golfstat NCAA Division II Head-to-Head standings in 2011-12, is currently ranked 14th by GolfStat.

If the Pacers earn a bid to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, USC Aiken will be vying to make its 16th appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament in the regional.

USC Aiken most recently finished tied for first at the Peach Belt Conference Championship. UNC Pembroke claimed the team championship on the first playoff hole.

The Pacers have finished second or better in five of their 11 tournaments so far in the 2011-12 season.

USC Aiken's best finish came in claiming the team title at the Bearcat Golf Classic on March 27.

USC Aiken under Hall of Fame head coach Michael Carlisle in the NCAA Division II Tournament has three NCAA Division II National Championships (2004, 2005, 2006) and three NCAA Division II runner-up finishes (1995, 1996 and 1999).

In the past eight years, USC Aiken has five NCAA National Championships, which includes three team titles and two individual crowns (Jeff Goff, 2008; Dane Burkhart, 2005).
