Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The sixth-seeded University of South
Carolina Aiken softball team fell 9-0 to second-seeded and national
No. 11 North Georgia in the PBC Tournament Semifinals on Sunday at
Cougar Field.
The Pacers threatened in the top of the first inning with
runners at first and second and one out. Unfortunately, USC Aiken
(26-17) could not scratch across a run to leave the game at
0-0.
In the bottom of the second, India Kornegay
(Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) fanned two of the first four batters in
the inning. The Saints would nevertheless go on to score seven runs
in the inning to take a 7-0 advantage into the top of the third
inning.
Kornegay was saddled with five of the runs in the inning. Samantha Lemm
claimed the final out of the inning for USC Aiken in relief of
Kornegay. Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS) gave up two runs in the
second inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, North Georgia added two more runs
to take a 9-0 lead.
Kornegay fell to 20-12 on the year with her loss in the circle.
She fanned three in the contest.
Melissa Dickie remained perfect at 19-0 with her win for North
Georgia in the circle. She struck out two.
North Georgia (45-7) out-hit USC Aiken 9-2 in the game.
Whitney
Clary (Newberry, S.C./Newberry HS) and Nicole Borden
(Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) claimed a hit each for USC Aiken
in the game.
Rochelle Shuman was the only player on either team with multiple
hits in the game with two.
Currently ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast
Region rankings, USC Aiken will now have to wait and see if it
earns an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Softball
Tournament.
The NCAA Division II Softball field will be unveiled during a
selection show on NCAA.com on Monday, April 30.
