Pacers Unable to Upset Top-Seeded Armstrong in PBC Tournament Quarterfinals

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The nationally 33rd-ranked and Peach Belt Conference eighth-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team bowed out of the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 loss to tournament top-seeded and national No. 1 Armstrong on Friday at the Greenwood Country Club.

USC Aiken (9-8) came closest to picking up a win on Friday at No. 1 doubles with the Pacer nationally 24th-ranked duo of Patrick Stiebinger (Weiden, Germany/Wichita State University) and Nathan Berlyn (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College) falling 8-4 to national No. 1 Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov of Armstrong (22-0).

Armstrong would eventually go on to sweep the doubles action. The Pirates would then claim wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to finish off its 5-0 victory.

Ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, USC Aiken will now have to wait and see if it will earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament.

The NCAA will hold a selection show on NCAA.com on Tuesday, April 24.
