Pacers Ready for PBC Tennis Championships

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams will compete in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Tennis Championships this weekend at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center at the Jeff May Complex.

The championships are being hosted by Lander.

The USC Aiken women's tennis team enters the PBC Tournament as the sixth-seed. The Pacers will face off against third-seeded Francis Marion at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 20 in the quarterfinals.

The Pacer women concluded their regular season with a 13-7 overall record. USC Aiken claimed a program-best seven wins in Peach Belt Conference action. The Pacers were 7-5 overall in league play.

USC Aiken and Francis Marion squared off earlier this year at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex with the Francis Marion women (16-2) earning a 9-0 victory. Francis Marion is presently ranked 10th nationally.

The winner of the USC Aiken-Francis Marion match will advance to the tournament semifinals where they will take on the winner of the second-seeded Columbus State-seventh-seeded Clayton State match at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

The championship match of the 2012 PBC Women's Tennis Tournament will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 211.

The nationally 33rd-ranked USC Aiken men closed out their regular season with a 9-7 record overall. The Pacers were 2-7 in Peach Belt Conference action. 

USC Aiken will face off against Peach Belt Conference top-seeded and national No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20 in the quarterfinals. The match will be played at the Greenwood Country Club.

Armstrong (21-0) garnered a 9-0 win over USC Aiken in their meeting earlier this year in Savannah, Ga.

The winner of the USC Aiken-Armstrong match will advance to the PBC Tournament semifinals where they will face the winner of the fourth-seeded Francis Marion-fifth-seeded Georgia College match.

The PBC Tournament semifinal will be contested at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

The PBC Men's Tennis Tournament championship match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 22.
