Box Score 2 DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader with national
No. 13 North Georgia on Saturday afternoon.
North Georgia (39-7, 13-3 PBC) procured a 7-0 win in game one
before earning an 8-5 come-from-behind win in game two.
USC Aiken (24-15, 9-9 PBC) never really get anything going in
game one.
North Georgia would eventually out-hit the Pacers, 7-4, in the
contest.
No Pacer was able to secure multiple hits in game one. Pilar
Harden and Kayla Minger led North Georgia in game one with two hits
each.
India
Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) suffered the loss in game
one. Kornegay (19-10) fanned seven in the contest.
North Georgia's Melissa Dickie improved to a perfect 15-0 in 2012
with her win in the circle for North Georgia in game one.
USC Aiken scored the first two runs of the game in the top of
the second inning in game two.
Cortney
Sadler (Bradenton, Fla./State College of Fla.,
Manatee-Sarasota) opened the scoring in the inning for USC Aiken by
doubling in Victoria
Burkett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert HS), who had doubled herself to
arrive on base.
The Pacers would add another run in the inning off a North
Georgia throwing error.
North Georgia would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the
third with one run, but the game changed completely in the bottom
of the fourth with the Saints posting seven runs.
The Pacers would counter in the top of the fifth with three runs
of their own. Whitney Clary
(Newberry, S.C./Newberry HS) claimed two of the three runs for USC
Aiken in the inning by tripling in Kaitlyn White
(Columbia, S.C./College of Charleston) and Brandy Bossle
(North East, Md./Rising Sun HS).
Both teams would be held scoreless the rest of the way, allowing
North Georgia to obtain the narrow three-run win.
North Georgia out-hit USC Aiken, 14-5, in game two. Five Saints
finished with two hits in the second game victory.
No Pacer was able to notch multiple hits in game two.
Samantha
Lemm (5-5) suffered the loss in the circle for USC Aiken in
game two. Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS) pitched four innings.
Kornegay would pitch the rest of the way for USC Aiken in game two.
She ended the day with a total of eight strikeouts to officially
take sole possession of first all-time in school history in single
season strikeouts. She now has 233 strikeouts this season.
Krysten Connelly moved to 3-1 on the year with her win in the
circle for North Georgia. Dickie pitched the final 2.2 innings to
claim her first save of the year.
USC Aiken will next close out its 2012 regular season with a
home doubleheader against Augusta State on Tuesday, April 17. The
doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
