Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
softball team split a twinbill with Le Moyne on Wednesday afternoon
at JH Satcher Field.
Le Moyne (3-5) claimed a narrow 1-0 win in game one before the
Pacers took a thrilling 5-4 victory in game two.
In the second game, USC Aiken (10-6) got things rolling in the
bottom of the second inning with three runs.
Brittney
Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll HS) was the first
Pacer on base in the frame, singling to left field. After a Lindsey Jones
(North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta HS) walk and the second Pacer
out of the inning, USC Aiken had runners at first and second with
two outs.
Brandy
Bossle (North East, Md./Rising Sun HS) then promptly doubled in
the first two runs of the game. Kaitlyn White
(Columbia, S.C./College of Charleston) then singled in Bossle to
give the Pacers a 3-0 lead.
The lead would last until the top of the fifth when Le Moyne
plated four runs to acquire a 4-3 lead.
The Pacers were unfazed though with Cortney Sadler
(Bradenton, Fla./State College of Fla., Manatee-Sarasota) doubling
in White and Bossle in the bottom half of the fifth to take back
the lead at 5-4.
Behind strong pitching from India Kornegay,
the Pacers would hold the Dolphins scoreless for their next two
at-bats to collect the one-run win.
Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) pitched the final 2.2
innings in the game in relief of starter Samantha Lemm
(Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS). Kornegay (10-6) fanned four in her time
in the circle in the contest.
Sarah Harrison suffered the loss in game two for Le Moyne. She
is now 3-3 on the year.
White was a perfect 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI for
the Pacers at the dish in game two. Bossle was 2-for-4 with two
runs scored and two RBIs.
Le Moyne out-hit USC Aiken, 8-7, in game two.
Morgan Edmondson and Leah Ford both had two hits for Le Moyne in
game two.
In game one, Le Moyne narrowly out-hit the Pacers, 4-3.
The Dolphins scored the lone run in the contest in the top of
the seventh to earn the win.
Kornegay suffered the loss in game one, but she did claim 12
strikeouts in the narrow Pacer loss.
Harrison struck out six in the win in the circle for the
Dolphins in game one.
USC Aiken now has a full week off before next welcoming
nationally 25th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne to its home facility
on Wednesday, Mar. 14. The first game is scheduled to start at 3
p.m.
