Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The nationally 22nd-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team completed a
dominating Peach Belt Conference three-game sweep of rival Augusta
State on Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
USC Aiken (12-4, 6-3 PBC) outscored Augusta State, 29-3, in the
three-game set. After garnering the 14-2 game one win on Saturday,
Mar. 3,USC Aiken swept a doubleheader from the Jaguars on
Sunday.
USC Aiken won game one of the Sunday doubleheader, 2-1, before
earning a 13-0 victory in game two.
USC Aiken has won five straight over Augusta State (6-13, 1-8
PBC). The three-game sweep leaves the Pacers with a 63-19 all-time
series lead over the Jaguars.
Augusta State struck first in game one, but USC Aiken scored two
runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the one-run win.
The Pacers out-hit Augusta State, 6-5, in game one.
Tyler
Bourdo (Evans, Ga./Truett-McConnell College) was the only Pacer
to secure multiple hits in game one with two.
Ryan
Milewski (West Boylston, Mass./West Boylston) earned the win on
the hill in game one to improve to 3-0 on the year. He fanned three
in his six innings on the mound.
Jake
Padgett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert) recorded his third save of the
year by dealing a scoreless ninth.
Game two was all Pacers, as USC Aiken out-hit the Jaguars, 15-4,
in the game.
Josh Miller
(Chapin, S.C./Chapin) led the Pacers in the second game, going
3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. He had two doubles in
the game.
Bill
Gerstenslager (Solon, Ohio /Mercyhurst) and Bourdo both had
home runs in the game.
Six Pacers claimed multiple hits in the contest in
total.
Derek
Beasley (Harlem, Ga./Harlem) acquired the win on the hill for
USC Aiken in the second game by pitching six innings of scoreless
baseball. Beasley (3-1) allowed just three hits and struck out
nine.
Kip Custer (0-2) took the loss in game two for Augusta State.
The Jaguar starter allowed seven runs in 5.2 innings on the
hill.
USC Aiken will next welcome Chowan to Roberto Hernandez Stadium
for a two-game mid-week set. The first game of the two-game series
is slated for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 6. Game two will be at 6 p.m.
on Wednesday, Mar. 7.
