AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
women's tennis team battled back in singles to pick up a 5-4 Peach
Belt Conference win over rival and national No. 40 Augusta State on
Thursday at the Newman Tennis Center.
USC Aiken (9-5, 3-3 PBC) entered the singles action on Thursday
down 2-1 to Augusta State (9-8, 3-4 PBC).
USC Aiken's lone win in doubles came at No. 1 doubles where the
Pacer tandem of Manon Hermens
(Bordeaux, France/Universitè de Bordeaux) and Franziska Regel
(Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Farmsen) downed Augusta State's
Victoria Lindqvist and Liv Pettersson, 8-2.
The Pacers would then claim four of the six singles flights to
acquire the overall victory. USC Aiken collected wins at No. 1, No.
2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to obtain its thrilling 5-4 win.
Hermens was 2-0 on the day for USC Aiken. In addition to her
doubles win, Hermens bested regionally 17th-ranked
Marina Ferreria 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
The Pacer women will next close their week with two road league
matches.
USC Aiken will first travel to Clayton State on Saturday, Mar.
31. The match in Morrow, Ga. is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
The Pacer women will then close their week by facing off against
North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga. on Sunday, Apr. 1. The match is
slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
