AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 32nd-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team was not able to knock off nationally 12th-ranked Augusta State in a 7-2 Peach Belt Conference loss to the Jaguars on Tuesday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
Augusta State (14-5, 3-2 PBC) opened its win over USC Aiken (5-4, 0-4 PBC) on Tuesday by taking two out of the three doubles matches.
USC Aiken's lone win came at No. 3 doubles where the tandem of Guilherme Destefani and Lucas Gobbi downed Augusta State's duo of Jenner Stevenson and Maxime Coulomb, 8-5.
In a battle of regionally-ranked foes, regionally 20th-ranked Destefani claimed the Pacers' lone point in singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over regional No. 10 and national No. 20 Bernardo Fernandes at No. 1 singles.
The Pacer men will next close the week on the road in Dahlonega, Ga. against North Georgia on Sunday, Apr. 1. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
