Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 10th-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team scored twice in
the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up a thrilling 8-7
come-from-behind win over visiting Anderson on Tuesday evening at
Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Pacers commenced the bottom half of the eighth down 7-6. Josh Miller
(Chapin, S.C./Chapin) kicked off things in the inning for USC Aiken
(20-6) by singling.
Back-to-back bunt singles by Nick Aranas
(Lexington, S.C./Lexington) and Tyler Bourdo (Evans,
Ga./Truett-McConnell College) then allowed the Pacers to jam the
bases with no outs.
Will
Tankersley (Thomson, Ga./Thomson) entered his at-bat without a
hit in the game, but he came up clutch in the situation by singling
in two runs to garner the Pacers their eventual one-run
victory.
Jake
Padgett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert) then pitched a scoreless ninth
for USC Aiken to preserve the Pacer win and notch his fourth save
of the year.
Pacer reliever Abram Cartledge
(Thomson, Ga./Thomson) acquired the win on the hill for USC Aiken.
Cartledge (2-0) pitched masterfully in the game, allowing just one
hit in four innings on the mound. He struck out three.
Riley McDermott (0-4) took the loss for Anderson (9-22) in
the contest. He did not claim an out and allowed the two
game-winning Pacer runs.
USC Aiken out-hit Anderson, 15-10, in the game.
Miller, who has now hit safely in 11 straight games, led the
Pacers at the dish in the game as he was 4-for-5 with two runs
scored and an RBI.
Bourdo extended his hitting streak to 17 games by going 3-for-5
with an RBI in the win over Anderson. Bourdo has now reached base
in the last 24 Pacer games.
Bryce Baur
(Moncks Corner, S.C./Florence-Darlington Tech) and Aranas were the
final Pacers with multiple hits in the contest with both collecting
two.
Four Anderson players ended the loss to USC Aiken with two hits
each.
USC Aiken will next travel to Newberry tomorrow (Wednesday, Mar.
21) to face off against the Wolves. First pitch in the game is
scheduled for 6 p.m.
