Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 14th-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team swept a
doubleheader from Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern on
Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USC Aiken (19-6, 10-5 PBC) blanked the Hurricanes, 6-0, in game
one before taking a 6-3 victory in game two.
The twinbill sweep on Saturday garnered USC Aiken a three-game
sweep of Georgia Southwestern (4-22, 2-12 PBC). The Pacers earned a
10-2 win in the series opener on Friday, Mar. 16.
USC Aiken overall outscored Georgia Southwestern, 22-5, in the
three-game league series.
Ryan
Milewski (West Boylston, Mass./West Boylston) pitched a
complete game for the Pacers in game one on Saturday. Milewski
fanned five in his nine innings on the hill. He allowed eight hits
in his complete game shutout victory.
Milewski is now 4-0 on the 2012 season.
Frank Ambrosino took the loss in game one. He allowed 12 hits
and six runs in his 7.2 innings on the mound. He is now 0-2 on the
season.
USC Aiken out-hit Georgia Southwestern, 12-8, in game one. Four
Pacers finished with multiple hits with Stephen Carmon
(Camden, S.C./Camden), Josh Miller (Chapin,
S.C./Chapin), Will Tankersley
(Thomson, Ga./Thomson) and Ty Barkell (Denver,
Colo./Palmer Ridge) all ending the game with two hits.
Blane Parker led the Hurricanes in the first game on Saturday
with three hits.
USC Aiken scored all six of its runs in four of its final five
at-bats as a team in the game with the Pacers scoring single runs
in the first and fifth innings before posting two-run innings in
the seventh and eighth innings.
In the second game on Saturday, USC Aiken out-hit Georgia
Southwestern, 10-7.
Three Pacers finished with multiple hits with Tyler Bourdo (Evans,
Ga./Truett-McConnell College), Barkell and Adam Anderson
(Boulder, Colo./Trinidad State JC) all finishing with two
hits.
Bourdo's two hits in game two helped him extended his hitting
streak to 16 games. He has now reached base in 23 straight
games.
Miller did not manage multiple hits in game two with only one,
but he was able to extend his hitting streak to double-digits as
well in the game. He has now hit safely in 10 straight
games.
Michael Coffey and Jarrod Taylor led the Hurricanes in game two
with two hits each.
Derek
Beasley (Harlem, Ga./Harlem) pitched the first five innings to
record the win on the hill for USC Aiken in game two. Beasley (4-1)
struck out two in his five innings. Taylor Grover (North
Augusta, S.C./Midland Valley) dealt the final 1.1 innings to claim
the save for the Pacers. Grover now has two saves on the year.
Matt Weaver (1-4) suffered the loss for Georgia Southwestern in
game two. He allowed five runs and eight hits in six innings on the
mound.
USC Aiken will next welcome Anderson to the 'Bert for a 6 p.m.
game on Tuesday, Mar. 20.
