Pacers Complete Sweep of Lincoln Memorial

Box Score

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team completed its season-opening three-game sweep of Lincoln Memorial with a 5-3 win over the Railsplitters on Sunday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

USC Aiken (3-0) and Lincoln Memorial (0-3) have played their first three-game series of the year against one another for the last eight seasons. USC Aiken's three-game sweep of Lincoln Memorial in 2012 marked the Pacers' first sweep of Lincoln Memorial since 2005.

The Pacers concluded Sunday's win over Lincoln Memorial out-hitting the Railsplitters, 14-5.

Five Pacers recorded multiple hits with Josh Miller (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance. He had three RBIs and scored a run.

USC Aiken's Branden Millhouse (Summerville, S.C./USC Upstate), Nick Aranas (Lexington, S.C./Lexington), Ty Barkell (Denver, Colo./Palmer Ridge) and Will Tankersley (Thomson, Ga./Thomson) each had two hits in the game.

The Pacers got things going in the game in the bottom of the third when Miller singled in Tankersley to garner the Pacers a 1-0 advantage.

Lincoln Memorial would even the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, but Tyler Bourdo (Evans, Ga./Truett-McConnell College) then hit his second home run in as many days to claim the lead once again for the Pacers at 2-1.

The next inning in the bottom of the fifth, USC Aiken scored three to take a 5-2 lead. Miller singled through the left side to bring in two of the three runs in the inning. Aranas shortly thereafter singled in Miller to acquire the third run of the stanza.

Lincoln Memorial scored its third and final run of the game in the top of the seventh. They threatened in the top of the ninth with runners on first and third with one out.

Miller and the Pacers were up to the task though as he first gunned down Lincoln Memorial's Joseph Horsley trying to steal second for the second out of the frame.

Pacer shortstop Stephen Carmon (Camden, S.C./Camden) then made a jumping catch on a line drive by Gelson Perez to claim the third and final out and cement the Pacer victory.

USC Aiken's Kelly Holt (Stockbridge, Ga./Middle Georgia) pitched the first five innings of the game to secure the win on the hill. Holt fanned five.

Jake Padgett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert) pitched a scoreless ninth to claim the save.

Lincoln Memorial's Brad Pressley suffered the loss on the mound. He pitched the first 6.2 innings, allowing five earned runs.

USC Aiken will next host the Carolina Outdoors Classic at Roberto Hernandez Stadium Friday, Feb. 10-Sunday, Feb. 12.

The Carolina Outdoors Classic will feature the host Pacers along with Carson-Newman, Davis & Elkins and North Georgia.

Two games will be played each day at the 'Bert over the course of the three-day event.

The Carolina Outdoors Classic will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 with the host Pacers playing Davis & Elkins for the first time since 1993. Immediately following the game at approximately 4 p.m., North Georgia and Carson-Newman will play the second game of the day.

USC Aiken will tangle with Carson-Newman at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. North Georgia and Davis & Elkins will then play the second game on Saturday at approximately 4 p.m.
